Washington, D.C. – Today, Inclusive Abundance Action President Derek Kaufman released the following statement on the House of Representatives passing the amended 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act on an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote of 396-13. This comes after Inclusive Abundance Action helped coordinate a letter from nearly 200 industry and advocacy groups to House leadership expressing support for the bill.
"Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the most important federal housing legislation in a generation. That this bill is now so close to becoming law reflects a growing, bipartisan consensus that the surest way to bring costs down is to build more.
“The Senate passed its own landmark housing bill with nearly 90 votes – and the House has now improved upon it, making critical fixes that a broad coalition of industry groups, community housing advocates, and even Rev. Al Sharpton called for. It removes the forced-sale requirement that would have hurt new rental construction while answering President Trump's call to prevent large institutional investors from outcompeting American families. And it does all of this while achieving what matters most: more homes and lower costs.
“We are seeing abundance reshape Congress in real time. More and more leaders are choosing to act instead of wait when it comes to eliminating the barriers driving up costs across the country. We applaud the bipartisan Build America Caucus, led by co-chairs Josh Harder and Celeste Maloy, for advocating for stronger housing supply provisions, and Chairman French Hill and Ranking Member Maxine Waters for their leadership in crafting this smart compromise.
“With the President's support, we urge the Senate to take up this bill without delay. We will continue working to advance this legislation and to give American families more and cheaper housing options.”
