Press Release
Washington, DC – Today, Inclusive Abundance Action urged Congressional leaders to include two bipartisan bills, the ROAD to Housing Act and the HOME Reform Act, in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which is currently in conference negotiations. Both bills take significant steps forward to expand housing supply and lower costs for American families.
The ROAD to Housing Act, led by Sens. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), unanimously passed out of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee and was included in the Senate-passed version of the NDAA earlier this fall. The HOME Reform Act, introduced two weeks ago by Reps. Mike Flood (R-NE) and Emanel Cleaver (D-MO), serves as an integral companion to the ROAD to Housing Act.
“Republicans and Democrats in both chambers of Congress have already put forward commonsense solutions to our national housing crisis. Now, our leaders need to take the next step by including the ROAD to Housing Act and the HOME Reform Act in NDAA. That’s the smartest, fastest way for Congress to increase our housing stock, lower costs, and build a more abundant future,” said Derek Kaufman, President of Inclusive Abundance Action.
Inclusive Abundance Action applauded the 11 Republican and 21 Democratic members of Congress who sent a bipartisan letter to Senate and House leadership calling for the inclusion of the ROAD to Housing Act in the final NDAA conference agreement. The letter was led by Rep. Josh Harder, chair of the House Build America Caucus (BAC), and included 20 BAC members. Inclusive Abundance Action helped support the launch of the Build America Caucus earlier this year. This bipartisan show of support underscores that expanding housing supply and lowering costs for Americans is not a partisan issue, it’s a national priority.
