Press Release
Washington, DC – Today, Inclusive Abundance Action President Derek Kaufman released the following statement in response to the U.S. House of Representatives passing the Standardizing Permitting and Expediting Economic Development (SPEED) Act, a permitting reform measure.
“The United States urgently needs permitting reform to lower energy costs, power AI and manufacturing, grow our economy, and meet climate goals. That’s why we’ve championed tech-neutral process reforms – the most realistic path to bipartisan progress – and have worked to bring Republicans and Democrats together to find a solution.
“But all-the-above energy really means all the above. The version of the SPEED Act passed today does not provide enough permitting certainty for all projects, allowing presidents of both parties to nix much-needed energy projects for political points.
“Any comprehensive permitting reform package should cut unnecessary bureaucracy and litigation, ensure project certainty, build out the grid, and maintain critical environmental protections. We remain optimistic that a path forward exists, and will continue to work with members and stakeholders until a solution is passed into law.”
