Washington, DC – Today, Inclusive Abundance Action President Derek Kaufman released the following statement in response to the U.S. House of Representatives passing H.R. 6644, the Housing for the 21st Century Act, by a bipartisan vote of 390-9.
“We applaud the U.S. House of Representatives for passing a bill that works to increase the supply of housing – the only long-term, sustainable way to lower housing costs and address the affordability crisis devastating American families. By cutting red tape, modernizing outdated federal housing programs, and unlocking new tools for communities to build, the Housing for the 21st Century Act takes meaningful steps toward an America where everyone can afford a place to live.
“That both the House and the Senate have now passed abundance-informed housing bills with large, bipartisan majorities shows how much the debate has shifted in the last year, and the enormous opportunity ahead. Housing abundance is no longer a niche idea. It is the emerging consensus in D.C. and across the country, supported by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle who understand that the only way out of this crisis is to build.
“We look forward to working with the Senate and the House as they move to reconcile the Housing for the 21st Century Act and the ROAD to Housing Act to ensure we get the most comprehensive bill to the President’s desk this year. The American people are counting on Congress to finish what it has started.”
